Getting Things Done! In honor of Donkeys and Owls.

happy, Leonie, thoughts, transformation | 6 comments

ok, so I am freaking out a bit.
Although I just made a decision that released a bit of the “freakiness” and decided to share it here.

Ya know, I am VERY good at coming up with awesome “airy” ideas and then some more awesome “airy” ideas to top off all the other ones. {I also nurture modesty as you can tell. 😉 }

Anyway, what about making those awesome “airy” ideas happen with practical and objective to-do lists and planning? Sadly not my strength.

So I have a gazillion of projects in production line.
Well, fine, a gazillion may be a tad of an exaggeration. I have around 3-4.

I have the final product of most of them very vivid in my head! I started all them {but one} and they are mid-way to be finished or super-close to conclusion.

And then, of course, the closer a task gets of been done, the more I start thinking about another awesomeness to produce. {that modesty again :D}

So, my in-laws are in town this weekend. My projects are still there, vividly finalized in my head. Together with my planner depression that I didn’t manage to get out yet, I am in total mind chaos.

I tried, however, to do what “doers” do and spread out chunks of time to work a tad bit on each thing every day.

And you know what?

THAT DOESN’T WORK FOR ME!

I need to finish things in ONE long sitting!
Yeah! I can not do tad bits here and there.

Maintenance of projects after birth?
Yes sure, a bit here and there everyday is the way to go. Actually which other way, anyway?
But for creating things for the first time, itty bits here and there are just plain torture for me! And a very good way of not getting things done actually.

Those thoughts reminded me of Gretchen Rubin’s article I read a while back about eating cookies. I am SO an abstainer in that matter – I prefer to not to eat a cookie at all then to taste it a bit and hold my self from eating another one. 8 or 80, you know? Black or white, no grays?

So yeah, for getting huge projects done, I need to go all in. Or I won’t go at all.

Which also reminded me of another article I read about this. An e-book actually. I SO identified with Leonie’s Getting things done workbook
{it is FREE by the way peeps! Go get it!!! And there you will understand the “donkey” part of the title! hehe}

So, all that rambling, to say that I WILL get at least TWO of my projects done this week.

How?

By going all in! On my own way { or the highway! HA! Just Kidding. 😀 }.

Tonight, tuesday and wednesday will be long nights for me.

oh, yeah, and I am a big night owl in case I hadn’t told you. Twitter gets quiet around 11pm-midnight, then sometime much later I see all the UK Philofaxy peeps showing up and happily welcoming a new shinny day. I then slap my forehead mumbling “oh, gosh! I did it again! It is 2am! I need to go sleep!”

So I will be saying goodmorning to them again in this next few days! 😀

I am riding my donkey, wearing my owl costume and getting things done!! Yeah!!!

Smooches!

    Oh, this is so recognizabel! I always admire people who can make a start with a journalpage before even going to work. I need big chunks of time too, and since I don’t get that very often I get very frustrated because of all the unfinished projects in my head …. Seems like I’m always short on time. Good for you that you’ll be able to make some long nights! Ride that donkey, woohoo! ♥

    It is always good to work out what works best for you with time management. Unfortunately that isnt always possible. I work fulltime, leave the house at 515am and get back around 7pm i cant work creatively in a way that is natural for me as if i did i would never get to work. Which is why i have to discipline myself to allotted time chunks in a day so i can get all the things done that i need or want to. On weekends i after all the housework and errands are done i can be a little less timetabled in my approach to creativity! Coffee helps too….. Love your blog and your art, thanks for creating it for all of us.

    We’re the same! I’m a night owl too! I get to sleep at 11pm or 12am even though I’m already in bed at 10pm, I still get to sleep at that time. LOL. Anyways, good luck with your projects~! They’re going to be awesome as always! ♥
