I am SO excited for this week coming up that I can’t even 😃
👉🏼 If you are feeling a bit discouraged by how things are going on in your life right now, I have some things to tell you that will help.
And it is World Cup inspired! ⚽️🏆
{Even if you don’t follow it I promise you, it will ring some bells! 🛎}
🇧🇷I’m Brazilian if you didn’t know, and I’m completely obsessed with soccer — when the World Cup comes around there is. 😁 During “off seasons”, meaning the 4 years in between, I am clueless on what is going on in the soccer world {full disclosure 😏}
BUT as a hard core “canarinha” {meaning Brazilian team fan} yesterday was heartbreaking to say the least. ❤️🩹 We lost a match and we are out of the tournament. The sixth star that we have been going after in the last 20 yrs will have to wait some more.
HOWEVER, the way the dynamic of this game played out is what I want to highlight here today.
It was Golden!!
Here’s what happened👇🏼
The game itself was a struggle! For both teams {against us was Croatia}.
No one scoring, everybody high up in their defenses.
However during the extra time, almost at the end, Brazil scored a goal – finally! There were just 15-ish minutes to end the match. All the suffering from 90+ minutes before were about to end…. it was all so close…. Brazil would be in and Croatia out.
⚽️👉🏼 Now here is the kick and the beauty….
🥅 With less than THREE minutes to end the match… Croatia scores!
There is a tie. Penalties come next. And we lose… badly.
Brasil is out of the World Cup 2022. Game over. Literally.
💎 But two things stood out for me on this quick dynamic shift that happened in the field — which are very relevant to us:
1. When we let our circumstances dictate how we expect things to turn out:
Once that Croatia goal was in, the entire energy of the Brazilian team shifted and went down. By a lot!
The certainty of winning slipped away from them and the worriness could be sliced through with a knife.
I get it thou.The tables turned, victory was not that obvious anymore and it seemed far out every minute more.
The heaviness started getting worse and by the time all penalties were about to roll in, it felt like the match was decided already. That they would try but they themselves weren’t believing that they could win it anymore.
And how familiar is that kind of situation to all of us?
👉🏼 We let ourselves get caught up on what we see around us that seems to be unfavorable {events, people, situations} and we just let that despair and discouragement to take over. That stuff builds momentum and things start getting worse and worse.
If we only could shake off that original icky feeling, stop the momentum of those “bad” feelings and turn things around, isn’t it?….. 🤨
Which leads me to the next huge piece of jewel happening on that game.
2. When we continue to believe the thing we want is ours and we keep a steady focus on it:
Remember that I mentioned Brasil only scored a goal 15mins before the game ended? Meaning, up to that point both teams were equally on track to win.
Now, when you are playing for 90+ mins to no signs of advancing the game and during the extra time the opponent scores at FIFTEEN minutes before the game ends… things COULD had turned gloomy, dark, worrisome and hopeless for Croatia, isn’t it?
Yet, this is what one of the Croatia players {Dejan Lovren} pointed out in an interview afterwards:
“[…] We said in the last half of the last 15 mins — Don’t stop to believe. Everyone said that and we knew it. We’d come back. No matter how hard it was in some moments. We are really special. […] We know everything is possible. Just to keep moving on.”
And keep moving they did. With just THREE minutes left, they scored that goal that brought them back into the game and shortly thereafter — they won!
How incredibly is THIS?
💎 It doesn't matter how little evidence we have in our reality of the things we want being possible, having the mental clarity, the faith and certainty that the end result is ours... having the certainty that it is NOT over until it's over... is key to achieving what we want.
👉🏼 Croatians did exactly that when they most needed >> When there was very little evidence of being able to win the game, they kept believeing.
👉🏼 And Brazilians did exactly the opposite >> At the sign of things getting off course, they let themselves sink into the fear, concern, doubt because a perceived situation was not in their favor anymore. And that energy persisted and the team lost.
I was {*ahem*😏} a “bit” emotional with the whole game situation and his interview just sent me!
Because this is truly how I see things working for us down her on this juicy 3D planet we live in:
Our mental state, our inner world and our belief system, are powerful forces to move us forward and to experience life differently,
{Note how both teams were experiencing the same perceived “disadvantage” in very different ways!}
